Hunter Gameplay Trailer: There is a liar in these tunnels
Watch the official gameplay reveal trailer for METRO 2039
In the Xbox Games Showcase, we revealed our first full gameplay trailer for METRO 2039, featuring nearly three minutes of footage captured completely in-game. We’re also proud to let you know that the game will be in your hands in February 2027 where it will launch on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store.
We know the reveal left the community itching to see more gameplay and with lots of questions about the world, the Stranger, Hunter and more. So, if you haven’t already, watch the trailer here:
They call him Fuhrer.
We called this trailer HUNTER for one reason – it’s all about him. In April, we revealed that our antagonist was not just “Fuhrer”, but none other than the first Spartan himself, Hunter. Today, we get our first in-game look at him, adorned in decorated Novoreich uniform, a fascist perversion of the iconic Spartan armour. His image can be seen all over, his presence looming over the Metro in crumbling posters, flickering propaganda, and towering statues.
But where are the Spartans now?
The trailer is narrated by our protagonist, The Stranger, who begins to shed light into how the Metro fell. He is consumed with anger and hatred, his inner monologue chastising the Fuhrer for his lies and hypocrisy, “you promised a brighter future… you swore to crush the enemy”. What’s left of the Spartan Order as we knew it lies in ruins, and where the Spartans were once considered selfless protectors, the Stranger believes Hunter has become the very enemy the Spartans used to fight. But what is the Stranger’s motivation in all this? And what of the returning Dark Ones hinted in his nightmares? That’s for another day…
Every step and every move.
Gameplay was really what we wanted to show off here. Captured entirely in-game, we give glimpses into the diverse environments from the game, including many that directly inspired the nightmarish visions of our reveal trailer – from deadly wildlands to irradiated Moscow streets, struggling station communities, and the terrifying depths of the tunnels themselves.
Protect the Metro, from you.
Captured entirely in-game, with a blend of first-person gameplay and custom camera angles, fans can witness METRO 2039’s trademark mix of immersion, survival, stealth, violence, and horror. Everything that makes METRO, METRO, has returned, but there are some new features hinted at here too, from your first look at the Shatun weapon firing in anger, to new items, new mutant variants, and new ways to explore or take advantage of the environment and some reimagined favourites. We can’t wait to show you more.
